Plyometrics \ "plI-&-'me-triks \ n. Exercise in which an eccentric muscle contraction is quickly followed by a concentric muscle contraction. Exercise involving repeated rapid stretching and contracting of muscles (as by jumping and rebounding) to increase muscle power.

Speed training is just that - strength and quickness drills focused on improving maximum velocity, elastic strength (power) and speed endurance.

Though each of these types of exercise is an integral part of most sports, plyometric and speed drills are insufficient in terms of providing the athlete with complete preparation for his or her sport.
