A philosophy developed from over thirty years' coaching experience and advanced athletic training. The Works is a dynamic approach to sport-specific performance enhancement that you won't find anywhere else.

Our People:

The Works' staff is comprised of experienced, coaches, athletes and educators all thoroughly trained and certified to teach The Works' unique programs and we endeavor to match our trainers to your needs and goals.

Founder, Pete Rivas
Pete Rivas is a former Division I men's basketball assistant coach and former head high school basketball girls and boys coach of ten years. Pete founded The Works with a desire to reach the athlete who needs help leveling the playing field in a storm of elite and over-trained young athletes. He has assembled a staff of trainers, educators, coaches and former collegiate and high school players to do just that. With over 26 years of coaching experience and knowledge, Pete leads The Works with his passion for helping young players be safe, healthy and successful in their athletic endeavors.

Head Athletic Trainer, Maureen Joyce, ATC
Maureen "Moe" Joyce is a former athlete and graduate of California State University, Long Beach. Moe has been a certified athletic trainer (ATC) since 1992. In addition to her over 20 years of service in the Santa Ana Unified School District, Moe was named the Orange County ATC Trainer of the Year in 2006. Moe serves as The Works' Head Trainer and monitors all programs to ensure the health and success of all of our athletes.

Director of Operations, Kari Duperron
Kari comes to The Works straight from her former position as Director of Operations for UCLA's Women's Basketball program where she coached and was involved with recruiting and running camps and clinics. A former NCAA Division I player (Cal Poly SLO), Kari has also coached travel teams and coordinated personal training for student athletes. Like many other Works trainers, Kari has served as a camp counselor/trainer at many of the top basketball camps in California (both private and college sponsored).

Master Trainers:

Kevin Obillo, Director of The Works' Irvine Region, is one of The Works' first trainers, having been one of the key people involved in The Works. Kevin has coached all levels of high school basketball over the last 10 years. As the proud parent of a basketball player, he also coached his daughter through youth basketball and has helped coach a number of all star teams. An elementary school teacher, Kevin was named Tustin Unified School District Teacher of the Year Finalist in 1999. He earned both his bachelors' and masters' degrees from Pepperdine University.

Brian Kays, Director of The Works' San Gabriel Valley Region is currently the Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach at San Dimas HS. In more than a decade of coaching Brian has worked with Bishop Amat High School (CIF Southern Section title in 2001-2002), Fullerton High School, and Sonora High School. He has also run numerous sports camps over the years, including a summer long basketball camp in Maine. As do many of The Works trainers, Brian serves on staff at Snow Valley basketball camp. Brian holds a a M.S. in Education from Mount Saint Mary's College a master's degree in Education from Mount Saint Mary's College and a B.S in Kinesiology from San Diego State University where he served on the Board of Directors for athletics.

Matt Klemin, Director of The Works' Inland Empire Region, like many of The Works' trainers, has coached since high school. His pursuit of coaching has lead him to be the 1st asst. coach with the Women's basketball team at California Baptist University in Riverside. Prior to Cal Baptist, Matt had the same role at Azusa Pacific University. During his college years at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he attained his Bachelors and Masters degrees, Matt coached the Women's basketball team for two years. He has worked more than 20 basketball camps, including The Works' NIKE camps and the prestigious Snow Valley Basketball Academy.
